An hour practice embodying stillness and coolness as drops of water ripple around us, journeying into stillness as a way of connecting to our deeper inner wisdom. During the practice of Yoga Nidra, (also known as Yogic Sleep or Psychic Sleep) we appear to be asleep, yet we are not sleeping - consciousness is functioning at a deeper level of awareness. Being in this state causes us to feel deeply relaxed. It's a very powerful technique in which we learn to relax consciously. We withdraw the senses so that the mind and the mental awareness are dissociated from the sensory channels and turned deeply inwards. In summary, we turn our senses inwards while remaining AWARE and AWAKE. In Yoga Nidra, 'the door' between the conscious and subconscious mind remains open and our awareness keeps moving between the two. Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation while maintaining complete awareness. The new moon is a time of darkness and renewal, making it ideal for practicing yoga nidra.
